Jenna Partanen’s thesis project continued as a summer job at City-Lab.
In the spring, I completed my thesis for City-Lab on customer satisfaction. Now I’ve graduated as an engineer in bio- and chemical technology, and this past summer I’ve been working in City-Lab Turku. The results of City-Lab’s customer satisfaction survey were excellent, showing high satisfaction across all areas of the survey—customers are generally very pleased with the operations, service, and product selection. I’ve seen this firsthand in my daily work!
I’ve found the job to be a perfect combination of customer service and back-office work. What I’ve especially enjoyed is the variety in my workdays. Every day brings new situations and opportunities to learn something new about the life sciences field. I also appreciate how this job blends office work with hands-on tasks, like unpacking deliveries.
I received a thorough orientation from Heidi and Tiina at City-Lab Turku when I started. Of course, my previous experience in lab work and existing knowledge of many products’ uses has been helpful. Still, I encounter new and unfamiliar products daily. Fortunately, I’ve been able to get answers to even the trickiest questions from City-Lab’s partner companies and colleagues.
I’ve had the chance to receive orders, unpack shipments arriving at City-Lab, hand over products to customers, conduct inventory, and much more. Some days are busier with lots of orders and packages to unpack, while others are calmer. Heidi and Tiina have been wonderful company, and laughter is a daily sound at City-Lab.
The range of products available through City-Lab is extensive, and we’ve been able to fulfill most of the customers’ requests. I’ve also done product comparisons and searched for equivalent or alternative items to meet customer needs.
During my summer job at City-Lab, I’ve seen in practice what the results of my thesis on customer satisfaction revealed.
Customers come to our BioCity store with a smile on their faces, and the atmosphere is light and cheerful. They’re friendly and understanding, even when facing issues with orders or products – and City-Lab staff is always ready to help.
