During the summer of 2026, City-Lab’s offices were once again supported by enthusiastic summer employees across Finland. Summer work at City-Lab includes a variety of tasks, such as receiving deliveries, handling and storing products, processing orders and helping customers. The work also offers an opportunity to become familiar with laboratory products and customers in a practical work environment. This summer, City-Lab’s teams were strengthened by Enni Hartikainen in Kuopio, Silja Kuusirati in Turku and Venla Rauhala at the Biomedicum office.
Versatile tasks and new perspectives
Enni Hartikainen, who worked at the Kuopio office, studies Biomedicine at the University of Eastern Finland. According to Enni, the work at City-Lab was suitably independent, while help and advice were always available when needed.
During the summer, Enni developed her customer service skills and became familiar with a wide range of laboratory products and customer needs.
“While processing orders, I got to know many different laboratory products and their applications. The experience gave me a new perspective on how research laboratories operate.”

Silja Kuusirati returned to City-Lab’s Turku office for her second summer. Silja studies Medical Engineering and Health Technology at the University of Turku. During the summer, she worked in customer service and order processing. Her responsibilities also included receiving incoming goods, preparing deliveries for collection points and participating in inventory work.
Venla Rauhala, who worked at the Biomedicum office, will begin her studies in Chemical Engineering at Aalto University this autumn. Her tasks included opening deliveries and ensuring that products were stored at the correct temperatures.
“It has been interesting to see the wide variety of products ordered through us. You come across all kinds of interesting things.”
Building new skills
The summer provided all three students with an opportunity to learn new skills and gain a deeper understanding of laboratory products, customers and day-to-day operations.
According to Enni, the job helped her develop customer service skills, responsibility and independent working skills.
“I had the opportunity to develop my customer service skills and meet many pleasant customers. The job also improved my ability to work independently, as well as my sense of responsibility and attention to detail. I believe these skills and experiences will be very useful in my future career.”
Silja highlights the importance of accuracy and finding solutions to different customer needs.
“Working at City-Lab has taught me the importance of accuracy in daily tasks. The broad product portfolio and the different needs of customers have brought variety to each day and challenged me to find the right solution for each situation.”

Nice colleagues and a positive atmosphere
The summer employees’ experiences highlighted the variety of tasks, the opportunity to learn new things and the positive working atmosphere. Their days included customer service, order processing and receiving products, ensuring a good mix of different responsibilities.
Silja noticed how much her previous experience helped when returning for another summer.
“I also worked at City-Lab in the summer of 2024, and when I returned the tasks came back to me surprisingly quickly. My previous experience has helped with order processing, which has become quite routine. It was nice to return to a familiar workplace!”
Venla also highlights the importance of the work community.
“What has made the job enjoyable is the friendly atmosphere and great colleagues.”
